Game Design and Gaming – A Relationship Like No Other

Gaming is a world in and of itself. In the United States, gaming is deeply entrenched as a form of social activity and recreational activity. It is an activity that engages large groups of people in action and that can be done alone or with friends and family. One activity that is closely associated with gaming is video games. Video games are designed to provide an interactive means for players to engage in virtual combat and to communicate and play with others through their computers.

The history of video games is steeped in tradition. The earliest form of game creation was board games created by ancient Indians for simple entertainment. Board games were designed around the concept of strategy and skill. As the concept of board games evolved into more elaborate games such as Monopoly and Risk, the idea of using strategy and skill became more closely associated with the concept of gambling. Gambling developed as a means to win money.

As the history of gaming continued to evolve, games developed into what we know today as computer games and then World Wide Web games. Computer games have developed into what we now call massively multiplayer online games (MMOG) and online role playing games (ORPG). The popularity of these online games has led to the growth of websites that offer free to play games, which allow a wide variety of gaming experiences to the user. These games can be played from the comfort of a computer or a laptop.

Gaming also involves social interaction. In fact, gaming requires a great deal of social interaction. This is because it takes a lot of coordination to win a game. Gamers will compete against one another and they will communicate through chat rooms, blogs, forums and social networks.

There are three primary components of social interaction that are related to gaming. First, there is the act of competition. In this competitive environment, players try to out-think and out maneuver each other. Second, there is the recognition of accomplishment. This is typically accomplished through achievements or awards. And third, there is the experience of accomplishment or reward.

There are a multitude of social elements that go into the making of a gamer’s world. The creation of these games has resulted in millions of people from all walks of life spending time playing these games. As technology continues to advance, we will likely see even more complex and engaging games available on the market.
